Fernwood Millwork-The Full Story
Fernwood Millwork is a family-rooted woodworking company built on craftsmanship, creativity, and a deep respect for tradition and sustainability. Named in honor of my grandfather’s original business, Fernwood, our company carries forward his legacy of thoughtful design and hands-on ingenuity.

My grandfather, who lived in the Hudson Valley, rebuilt parts of his home using repurposed materials—railroad ties for retaining walls and granite windowsills turned into steps. He had a remarkable ability to see potential in overlooked materials. Beyond his home projects, he also ran a small woodworking business, crafting wooden toys for children, building furniture, and recaining chairs and other pieces with precision and care. I enjoyed countless hours next to my grandfather's side, learning the finer points of craftsmanship.
I attended Blue Hills Technical High School, where I developed a strong foundation in carpentry, millwork, and AutoCAD. My instructors, seeing my skillset, would often hire me during breaks between college semesters. While working inside a cabinet shop during brutal Boston winters, I discovered that recreating historical millwork and moldings was the beginning of my life as a craftsman.
I’ve now been a cabinetmaker for over 30 years, continuing the tradition of skilled, thoughtful work. Now in its third generation, our passion for woodworking lives on. I’ve passed my skills to my son and grandson, ensuring that the values Fernwood was founded on—quality, sustainability, and family—will shape our work for generations to come.
